Teaching methods
As I have mentioned before every student studies and learns in different ways. For this reason I have developed many different ways to tutor the students.
Past Papers: I have found that many students find a great difference in the way the questions are laid out in A-level papers and how the examiner want them answered compared to a GCSE paper. A way to develop this exam technique is to answer as many past paper questions as possible. This can either be done open book or as a test for themselves. An important part in this method is for the student to use the marking scheme to mark their own papers. This way they can see where they are going wrong and how they can improve their answers.
Simple Notes: A lot of students find it difficult to simplify many scientific concepts, so one method is to show how to find the important information from complex notes.
Diagrams: A picture tells a thousand words – this is so true! Again a complex idea or model can be simplified into a diagram. It is also been proven that it is easier to remember a diagram than to remember words.
